About my quagi
I was looking for a simple high gain design for VHF and UHF for some time in order to start playing with VHF/UHF DXing and field work. I decided to look for a Quagi design, partially because of the ease of matching (direct connection to the coax, try beating that!) and partially because of the high gain that can be easily achieved with minimal tuning. The design that I followed was taken from this page. It uses a wooden boom and simple wire elements. The contruction took about two hours. The wire that I used is galvanised 2.5mm fencing wire, which is probably not the best for the job, but it's dirt cheap and will work well in order to prove the benefits of this type of antenna. The reflector was cut with a small overlap section which I soldered, and the driven element was soldered directly to the coax cable. |
